Project WET (Water Education for Teachers)
GWI has and will continue to support the teaching of water resources and water conservation education in local classrooms. One vehicle that GWI utilizes for this purpose is Project WET, and international teachers training program.  GWI is the host organization for Project WET in Colorado, joining 49 states and 26 countries.

Project WET builds networks to encourage effective and sustainable water education programs and partners with agencies/organizations that share its mission, goal, and the following core beliefs:

    • Water is important to all waters users (e.g., business and industry, earth systems, energy, fish and wildlife, navigation/transportation, recreation, rural and agricultural, and urban/municipal)
    • Wise water management is crucial for providing tomorrow’s children social and economic stability in a healthy environment
    • Awareness of, and respect for, water resources can encourage a personal lifelong commitment of responsibility and positive community participation

Project WET has developed and published more than 50 guides, kits, and activity books for both educators and children that address a variety of topics including water quality and its relation to human and environmental health, water conservation, watershed protection, and wetlands conservation.

K-12 Education
GWI has and will continue to provide in-class presentations and lectures to K-12 school children, discussing science and civics of Colorado water supply, water conservation and water use. As part of this effort, GWI will continue to support local water festivals and fairs, classroom education through lectures and presentations, and classroom field trips to visit the State’s “places of water”.
